High potential and gifted education
At our school, every learner’s potential is our priority. Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creative, intellectual, physical and/or social/emotional domains.
Our offerings engage and challenge every student, including a strong focus on talent development for high potential and gifted learners.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Glenorie Public School, we offer a wide range of opportunities to support and extend high potential and gifted learners. Students can engage in intellectual pursuits such as debating, chess, writing competitions, STEM and coding clubs, and the Multicultural Speaking Competition. Creative talents are nurtured through school drama productions, dance groups, choir, band, and craft club, while the Premier’s Reading Challenge promotes a love of literature.
We also provide many avenues for students to develop their potential across the social/emotional domain, including implementation of The Resilience Project, School Representative Council (SRC), Green Team, student leadership and the Buddies program. Sporting potential is supported through school curriculum and carnivals, as well as PSSA interschool competitions and representative events. We foster wellbeing, confidence and personal growth, ensuring that every student has the chance to thrive and excel in their areas of strength.
Sporting opportunities
Students have the opportunity to participate in representative sport at school, zone, area and national levels. These pathways allow learners to showcase their skills, challenge themselves in competitive environments, and represent our school with pride. Through carnivals, trials, and PSSA teams, students can pursue their sporting strengths, develop teamwork and resilience, and experience success beyond the classroom.
School production
Our school musical allows students to explore their creativity through acting, singing, and dance. This experience helps build confidence, teamwork, and performance skills while celebrating the diverse talents of our school community.
Craft club
Students can pursue and develop their creative skills in Craft Club, where they experiment with different materials, techniques, and projects. This supportive space encourages imagination, fine-motor development, and a sense of pride in creating something unique.
Debating
Students can pursue their intellectual strengths through debating, where they learn to think critically, build persuasive arguments, and communicate with confidence. This program supports high-level reasoning, teamwork, and respectful discussion.
Green Team
Students can develop their social and emotional skills through participation in the Green Team, which encourages teamwork, responsibility and care for the environment, while giving students a calm, purposeful space to connect with others and contribute positively to the school community.
Individual extracurricular passions
Students can also pursue their individual extracurricular passions, such as equestrian activities, allowing them to develop specialised skills and confidence beyond the classroom. These opportunities support personal growth, discipline, and commitment while celebrating the diverse interests within our school community.
